Play an active role in changing children’s futures through their development. You'll develop skills and a recognised qualification to work with children up to the age of 8 years old including those with additional needs. You will gain real-world experience through a work placement each year. Students develop skills on placements at Belmont school, The Family Haven refuge centre and Battledown Centre for Children & Families. You will also have the opportunity to visit Stockholm, partnering with students and practitioners from the University of Stockholm to compare best practice and innovation. Sweden is an international leader in early years education.

Learning from lecturers with a varied wealth of experience, you’ll develop skills and knowledge around early years education as well as health and social care relating to young people. In year one you’ll study the psychology and sociology of children. This includes how the digital world and globalisation have changed their social behaviours. You will also explore the varying factors that impact upon child development and how we as practitioners may influence these, as well as how to ‘tune in’ to children to identify and manage individual needs. You’ll create your own market-focused catwalk collection, focusing on technical and making skills, sustainability and ethical design. With the emphasis on responding to industry trends, you will learn how to visualize your ideas, articulating them through a range of visual communication forms and translate them into professional outcomes. Understand the role of sustainability in design, and apply biophilic design which promotes individual health and wellbeing in the interior environment. You’ll hear from design professionals in lectures, work on live industry projects and undertake essential work placements at design companies, ready for your career. With a number of industry partners linked to the course, you will benefit from sponsored events, visits to landscape practices and lectures delivered directly by current practitioners. You’ll work real business briefs on this course – from the development of mobile apps, fly drones and a European MCU rally car, to hardware platforms and mission-critical software. Computing problem solving and software engineering are the focus of this degree. You’ll develop skills in high and low-level languages including C/C++, Java, Python, HTML5 and CSS and will use a range of Agile Methods including Scrum. Our course has an applied focus, with opportunities to work with the police and to investigate. You'll engage with the everyday experiences of dealing with crime: the impacts on the victim, the implications for society, forensic investigation, policing in the community, the workings of the criminal justice system, and approaches to preventing and deterring criminal behavior. Explore the causes and implications of different types of crime, including environmental crime, homicide, terrorism, organized crime, domestic violence and crimes against humanity.

You’ll investigate mock crime scenes, collecting and analyzing evidence and discovering how it is presented in court. You will have access to a forensic interviewing suite and virtual reality equipment to study issues such as the reliability of eye-witness testimony.
