The commitment to education has marked the work of the Methodist Church from the foundation of the first Methodist educational institution, the Kingswood School in England in 1748. Over the past 255 years, this educational vocation has also been manifested in Brazil, where various educational institutions Methodist incorporate more than a century of continuous activity.
The history of the Methodist University of São Paulo has been traced for over 70 years since the establishment of the Faculty of Theology of the Methodist Church in Sao Bernardo do Campo, in 1938. At the time, the Methodist Church had to merge two theological education centers, located in Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul. It was of interest to the newly created college - the first built in the municipality of São Bernardo do Campo - was present in a region that was configured as one of the main centers of social, political and economic of the country.
To strengthen the commitment to education, signed in the 40s, the institution went for a more daring project, in tune with their educational vocation. The presence of professional and qualified teachers and adequate infrastructure enabled the strengthening of its insertion in the national academic world. Thus, in 1970, it was created IMS - Methodist Institute for Higher Education.
With the consolidation of the education program and the excellence achieved over the years, IMS has been integrated among the most prestigious higher education institutions of the country. This allowed in 1997, conquered the University of status, increasing the number of colleges and courses offered. Today, the Methodist has three campuses in São Bernardo do Campo (Rudge Ramos, Vergueiro, Plateau). There are more than 117,000 square meters of total area, which includes a large green area. The Methodist has about 70 spaces between laboratories, modern experimental and clinical agencies, so that students can put into practice the knowledge acquired in the classroom, as well as libraries and halls spread across three campuses of the University.
