Introduction
Faculty of Biology UGM strives to provide high-quality education. As one of 18 faculties in UGM, Faculty of Biology has a vision that supports the university’s vision to improve higher education learning leading to a World Class University. In line with its mission on producing superior and competitive undergraduate at the international level and since Undergraduate Program in Biology Faculty of Biology UGM has been acknowledged internationally by ASIIN, as well as to cater growing market demand for internationally oriented graduates in tropical biology, Faculty of Biology aims to establish an International Undergraduate Program (IUP). The establishment of IUP Biology is expected to also expand the Faculty of Biology portfolio as a provider of higher quality and internationally competitive educational programs and as a driving machine for the development of infrastructure in the Faculty of Biology.
IUP Biology is developed as an integral part of the Undergraduate Program of Biology, Faculty of Biology UGM. IUP Biology will adopt Outcome-Based Education (OBE) to ensure its education quality. The outcome of the International Undergraduate Program is formulated in accordance with University as well as Faculty visions and missions. Graduates of IUP Biology are set to have the ability to pursue further any career path in biology, particularly in Tropical Biology. IUP Biology offers 3 majors, which are: Environmental Biology and Biodiversity, Functional Biology and Development, and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. IUP Biology can be completed in 7 semesters with total credits of 144-148. Moreover, the students are given chance to have international exposure through internship, extracurricular, thesis research, joint supervision, and dual degree from International partners (e.g. Tun Hussein Onn University (Malaysia), Tunku Abdurahman University (Malaysia), Tunghai University (Taiwan), National Central University (Taiwan), Yamagata University (Japan), Nagoya University (Japan), and Australian National University (Australia). During the programs, students will be challenged through various activities such as lectures, seminars, projects, practical work, self-study, and examinations.
The IUP Biology will be supported with comfortable classrooms, laboratories with up to date equipment, arboretum, greenhouse, animal house, Biology museum, field stations, as well as a library with ever-growing digital and non-digital collections. IUP Biology will also be supported by internationally educated faculty staff from the Faculty of Biology and other Faculties in UGM.
