Introduction
The Bachelor of Science in biology education is an interdisciplinary program that provides a foundation for becoming an effective teacher in the field. It combines accredited education training with a broad understanding of the discipline, from the molecular basis of life to the integration of life processes regulating the function of whole organisms.

Trevecca’s Bachelor of Science in biology education program is perfect if you want to intersect your love of biology with your desire to inspire and teach. This interdisciplinary program combines the best of our biology department and our NCATE-accredited School of Education, giving you a strong and well-balanced foundation. In addition to a broad base of coursework, you’ll gain valuable student teaching experience.
You’ll be able to take advantage of some incredible, on-campus learning opportunities outside of the classroom. Trevecca owns and operates a fully functional farm and greenhouse, allowing for unique research opportunities. You’ll also have access to our cadaver lab through a partnership with Trevecca’s PA program. And you’ll have local, national, and international off-campus opportunities to gain experience through activities like summer internships, medical mission trips, community outreach in Nashville, and more.

Program Outcome
Teacher candidates with a Biology Education major will be able to:
- Demonstrate their knowledge of biological principles;
- Apply knowledge and skills in experimental and analytical techniques, including health and safety precautions for lab procedures;
- Clearly communicate scientific information;
- Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to solve biological and ecological problems and to promote lifelong learning;
- Evaluate ethical implications of biomedical technology so that informed decisions can be made in light of Christian beliefs and values; and
- Perform effectively as a life science/biology teacher in middle/high school (grades 6-12).
