Experiential Learning/Internships
During your undergraduate studies, you’ll have a number of mentorship opportunities and both simulated and real-world classroom experiences.
Field experiences will provide you with an opportunity to perform the duties of a classroom teacher within the classroom setting. The purpose of these experiences is to allow teacher candidates to demonstrate their understanding of the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices and subject area competencies.

Average Starting Salary
The average salary for an elementary school teacher in May 2019 was $59,420 per year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. High school and middle school teachers earned $61,660 and $59,660, respectively.

You’ll find NSU education alumni at school districts all around the country, including Broward County Public Schools and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (the sixth-largest in the nation), Palm Beach County Public Schools, Pinellas County Public Schools, the Archdiocese of Miami, and Exceed Preparatory Academy. Our alumni serve as teachers for K-12 students or support the future of other educators in administrative roles.
Professional Licensure Disclosure
Florida participates in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification Interstate (NASDTEC) Agreement facilitating the mobility of Educational Personnel with more than 50 other states and jurisdictions for teacher certification and/or licensure. Graduates who wish to teach outside the state of Florida must contact their state's department of education for information for attaining certification/licensure through reciprocity.
