Fairmont State University

Fairmont State University is rooted in a rich history while leading innovation into a global future. We are a comprehensive institution of higher learning set within a beautiful and hilltop landscape in America’s Appalachian Mountain region. As a Fairmont State Falcon, you will build relationships and connections that will last a lifetime, while engaging in hands-on learning with teacher-mentors who are not only experts in their fields, but also love to teach.

At Fairmont State, you’ll never take a class from a graduate assistant, and we have zero on-campus classes with more than 100 students. We’re the perfect size: Our cozy, safe campus and small class sizes (our average student-faculty ratio is 15:1) offer you incredible opportunities to practice classroom learning in real-world settings, but we’re also large enough to offer a wide range of program offerings and specializations.

Fairmont State University has unique and premier programs in Engineering Technologies, Occupational Safety*, Architecture*, National Security & Intelligence*, Community Health Promotion*, Aviation, Nursing, Education, Computer Science, and Information Systems Management (programs with a * are the only ones of their kind in the state). Alongside these special programs are dozens of other degrees in liberal arts, psychology, business, STEM fields, healthcare, and many more! We offer 40+ degree programs, and over 100 programs of study, so you’re sure to find a major that not only fulfills your interests, but also leads to a rewarding, in-demand career.

    The Best of Both Worlds

At Fairmont State University, you get all the benefits of a state university – hands-on learning experiences, academic programs that lead to in-demand careers, and an exciting campus life experience – combined with the best aspects of going to a smaller private school – small class sizes, a cozy, safe campus, and caring teacher-mentors.

    Undergraduate Admissions

With more than 40 degree programs and over 100 programs of study, Fairmont State delivers a transformative educational experience. We offer major tracks that lead to rewarding careers, as well as programs you simply won’t find anywhere else in the state.

    Graduate Admissions

The demand for highly trained professionals has never been higher – nor has a master’s level degree ever been more valuable. Fairmont State University is meeting that increased need by offering online and on-campus graduate programs in Architecture, Business, Criminal Justice, Education, Engineering, and Healthcare Management.

    Transfer Admissions

If you’re considering transferring from another school, Fairmont State University understands students like you, who take control of their education…and their future. We know that you require a quality education without the high price tag of a private school, and a faculty and staff who listen to your needs. You'll find it all at Fairmont State.

    Returning Learners

You started pursuing an education at Fairmont State but decided to take some time off. We get it – sometimes life gets in the way of our plans. Don’t worry, though – we make it easy for you to pick up where you left off, and achieve your educational and professional goals.

    Adult Learners

Whether you’re after a new career with higher pay, a promotion in your current job, or you just want to learn more about a particular subject, we have programs for every adult learner. Our Regent Bachelor of Arts degree program even allows you to earn some credits for your job training and experience.

    International Admissions

Are you from outside the United States? Fairmont State University is an amazing place for you to study and experience America. Explore the admissions requirements for international undergraduate and graduate students, as well as English As a Second Language (ESL) and exchange programs.

    Visa Requirements

All international students applying for admission to the United States must hold valid passports and entry visas. Upon acceptance of a non-immigrant foreign citizen, Fairmont State will issue form I-20 (a certificate of eligibility) which is required before an application can be made to obtain a student visa. It is the responsibility of the applicant to contact the United States consulate in his/her country and consular district and apply for a non-immigrant visa. This will require a personal appearance before the consular officer, completion of a non-immigrant application form, and the provision of other documents that the consular officer may require in order to be satisfied that the applicant is eligible for the visa for which he or she is applying.

Applicants will be required to present documentary evidence of financial support in the amount indicated on the form I-20. Please note that this process must be initiated immediately after receipt of the certificate of eligibility for non-immigrant student status. Students admitted to the United States with a non-immigrant student visa (F-1 Classification) are required to be enrolled as full-time students and carry a minimum course load of twelve credit hours during regular semesters. F-1 students will also be required to complete their educational program within the time period indicated on Form I-20. To earn a bachelor’s degree students must successfully complete a minimum of 120 credit hours or 60 for an associate’s degree.
