Physics is the science that studies nature as a whole. From the largest, such as planets, galaxies, or the universe as a whole, to the smallest, such as atoms, elementary particles or laws that describe the fundamental behavior of "reality". In this sense, it is one of the oldest sciences, along with mathematics. The degree in Physics introduces its students to the description that Physics makes of the world, providing them with the basic skills to be able to apply it to daily activities of teaching, technology or business. It also provides the basic skills to continue the study of Physics at higher educational levels, such as the master's degree or, later, the doctorate in which the student will be provided with more specialized knowledge that allows him to create "new physics" for himself. A Physics graduate from UNED , after completing their studies, must have knowledge, skills and abilities that can be summarized as follows: Being able to evaluate and discern between orders of magnitude, as well as to develop a clear perception of situations that are physically different, but show analogies, which will allow the use of known solutions to new problems. For this it is important that, in addition to mastering physical theories, you acquire a good knowledge and mastery of the most commonly used mathematical and numerical methods. Having developed the ability to identify the essential elements of a process or a complex situation, which will allow you to build a simplified model that describes the object of study with the necessary approximation and allows you to make predictions about its future evolution. The Physics graduate should also be able to identify the way to check the validity of this model and to introduce the necessary modifications when discrepancies are observed between the predictions and the observations. Being familiar with the work in the laboratory, the instrumentation and the most used experimental methods. In addition, you will need to be able to independently carry out experiments and describe, analyze and critically evaluate the data obtained. In summary, you must know how to measure like a physicist (quantify and use the appropriate mathematical concepts to "give numbers" to any situation), analyze like a physicist (making analogies between physics models and the new situations you encounter, whether in a laboratory experiment as in any everyday situation), and act as a physicist (using laboratory tools and experimental data acquisition techniques, which they will know sufficiently to interpret or critically assess the results obtained with them). -
