In line with the White Paper of the ANECA European Convergence Program for the History degree, the following are indicated as the most important general objectives of this Degree in Geography and History: Provide a rational and critical knowledge of the past of humanity, so that the student understands the present and can make it understandable to others. It is, therefore, that they acquire the ability to relate the events and processes of the past with those of the present and to discern the way in which the former influence the latter. For this, it is considered of fundamental importance that they also acquire basic knowledge about the geographical space that serves as the setting for human history, as well as about the plastic expression of human creativity through art, which is an unquestionable reflection of the evolution of ideas and mentalities. In this sense, there is no doubt that knowledge of Geography and Art History helps the student of History to understand how human beings lived, thought and behaved in the past, fostering the ability to formulate hypotheses and find answers. adequate, founded and argued. Seek the acquisition by the students of a precise knowledge of the main events and of the processes of change and continuity of humanity in a diachronic perspective, from Prehistory to the Present World. With regard to the spatial dimension of this historical knowledge, it will start from the universal and European reality, which will allow us to understand the historical and cultural diversity of humanity, to then attend to the Spanish reality, which is closer to us, although doing show students that the different spatial fields are not watertight compartments, but are deeply interrelated, and that History is a study practice in continuous construction and not a static set of knowledge. Provide a basic knowledge of the main methods, techniques and instruments of analysis of the historian, which will allow the student to acquire the ability to critically examine any class of historical sources and documents, as well as the ability to handle search instruments, identification , selection and collection of information, both bibliographic and of any other nature, for its use in the study of a historiographical problem or in historical research. To ensure that students achieve a basic knowledge of the most relevant concepts, categories, theories and themes of the different branches of historical research, and that they become aware of the changes that occur over time in interests and forms of making history, closely related to the various geopolitical, social and cultural contexts. Guarantee that, at the end of the degree, students know how to express themselves fluently, clearly and coherently, correctly using the discipline's own terminology, so that they are able to give consistency to their arguments and make them understandable to others. It is also essential that they acquire the skills for analysis, synthesis, reflection, comparison, and understanding of the past and present, a critical spirit, rigor, and objectivity, qualities all of which are inherent to the work of the historian and geographer. Contribute to the training for the development of teaching functions related to the historical and geographical fields in the field of secondary education, for which the students will also have to carry out, necessarily, the Master's degree that enables them to exercise the profession of Teacher Compulsory Secondary and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, Artistic Teaching, Language Teaching and Sports Teaching. Ensure that students acquire a series of general skills that are useful for their working lives, such as organizational and planning skills, independent judgment, decision-making, respect for other people's points of view. For this, some teaching methods, such as seminars and work groups, may be of special interest. But, in addition to the general objectives of the degree, and in line with the White Paper of the ANECA European Convergence Program for the Degree in Geography and Territorial Planning, the specific objectives of the Geography Itinerary can be indicated following: Ensure general training, of an integrated nature, on the fundamental contents of the various thematic areas of Geography and its research methods. Know and manage the main work techniques related to obtaining, representing and processing geographic information, in order to allow the application of theoretical knowledge to territorial analysis, correctly combining and interpreting different types of geographic evidence (texts, maps, files, images). Help interpret, in differentiated historical contexts, the diversity and complexity of the territories where human activity takes place, with a view to relating natural and environmental phenomena with others of an economic and social nature. Contribute to the training for the development of teaching functions, of a geographical nature, in the field of secondary education, for which students will also necessarily have to complete the Master's degree that enables them to exercise the profession of Secondary School Teacher. Compulsory and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, Artistic Teaching, Language Teaching and Sports Teaching. Create the bases for subsequent postgraduate studies, specialized or of a transdisciplinary nature, in which there is a prominent territorial component. In short, it is intended that students who take the Geography Itinerary acquire sufficiently broad geographical training that, where appropriate, allows them the possibility of successfully completing a doctorate in Geography. The acquisition of the knowledge and skills indicated in the previous paragraphs will enable Geography and History graduates to practice professionally in a wide range of fields, among which the following stand out in particular: Teaching of History and/or Geography. Historical and/or geographical research. Direction and management of surveys, excavations and archaeological studies. Management of the historical-cultural and/or environmental heritage (with all the tasks that go from the knowledge and conservation of the heritage to its dissemination). Document management tasks in archives, libraries and museums. Dissemination of historical and geographical knowledge. Collaboration in social media and editorial work. Cultural advice in public institutions and private companies. Public administrations, preparation for the diplomatic career.
