In this program, you will learn technical and creative skills you can apply to a variety of media and digital artworks. Many of our students choose to work in video production, but the choice is yours.

In the Industrial Design program, you will learn how to develop new products that are used in our daily lives. These may include everything from everyday products to mobile apps. You’ll be encouraged to design sustainable products that will last many generations, keeping in mind diverse cultures.

In the Photography program, you will learn skills from darkroom to digital photography. OCAD University has some of the best photography facilities in Canada and one of few schools with both a color and black and white darkroom.

In the Graphic Design program, you will learn the process of visual communication through the combo of images, photography and text to represent ideas and messages.

In the Industrial Design program, you will learn how to develop new products that are used in our daily lives. These may include everything from everyday products to mobile apps. You’ll be encouraged to design sustainable products that will last many generations, keeping in mind diverse cultures. You’ll learn about research, concept development, and making prototypes, You will also study how people behave to better understand what their needs are. An important benefit of studying Industrial Design at OCAD U is that while you’re studying theory, you’ll also be able to take practical, creative hands-on courses, such as design and drawing. The Industrial Design program is recognized by the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Design degree.

OCAD U’s Graphic Design program teaches you the skills you need but also encourages you to use graphic design as an art form, to challenge barriers and create work for social good. You’ll learn how graphic design impacts society and generates dialogue. You will benefit from hands-on training, as well as theory courses that explore design as a form of expression. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Design degree.

Learn the skills to bring your imagination to life in OCAD University’s new Experimental Animation program. OCAD U has a long history of graduating successful animators in art and film including George Dunning who directed The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine and Richard Williams who was animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. More recently, alumni include computer animator Trudy Elmore and emerging VR artist Jawa El Khash. Shary Boyle, who represented Canada at the Venice Biennale, has achieved great success with her mesmerizing performances using hand-animated imagery. In this program, you’ll develop a personal artistic vision and push the boundaries of animation as a contemporary art form. You’ll mix traditional and digital media using 2D, 3D, stop-motion, digital compositing and augmented/virtual reality. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Study art history in the place art and design is made at Canada’s biggest art and design university. Our program is unique, in that you also get to take studio courses and make art and design yourself. The program emphasizes the expanded field of modern and contemporary art history, which includes design, photography, architecture, performance and new media, as well as painting and sculpture.

In the Material Art & Design program, you will learn how to create jewelry, textiles, and ceramics as a professional studio artist or designer. You’ll focus on making your own designs and will learn the critical and business skills you’ll need to succeed.

In this program, you’ll create the technologies that shape the way we live, work, and play. You’ll develop games, wearable technology, mobile apps, VR, interactive installations, and augmented reality. You will learn how these new technologies can solve problems, deal with contemporary issues, and create future possibilities.
