Introduction
Faculty of Forestry has one department and one study programme namely the Study Programme of Forestry. Curriculum of the Forestry Study Programme which currently applies is the Curriculum of 2008 being simultaneously legalized by the University Senate with the other study programmes in the year 2010. However, since the year 2013, the curriculum referring to the Indonesian National Qualification Framework had been modified and legalized by the Faculty Senate in the year 2015. The curriculum modification was implemented to meet the employment opportunities, global demands and development, technology development, particularly in the field of forestry.
The Forestry Study Programme has provided the basic expertise of the forestry sciences based on the Curriculum of 2008 and the New Curriculum of 2015. The curriculum concerns psychomotor skills through the practice of the basic subjects related to the general and forest ecological principles, identification of tree types, or practice of the expertise subjects, such as the activities related to the forest cultivation, planning, harvesting, sustainable forest management, the policies in the forestry field, solution of the forestry social problems and the practice of the forest product processing and utilization. In addition, the study program provides the students with opportunities to develop themselves and apply their knowledge in the field practice or apprentice in the forest institutions or companies specifying in the forestry field.
The Forestry Department of Hasanuddin University has seven laboratories, teaching forest, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The laboratories serve as the centre of investigation, research and community service for particular interests, laboratory practice related to the subjects within the scope of the forestry sciences. Each laboratory is responsible for one or more study field interests. The Teaching Forest functions as the supporting element possessed by the faculty as the natural laboratory which also has the functions of education, research, and community service.
