This qualification is primarily designed to provide a well-rounded, broad education that equips graduates with the knowledge base, theory, and methodology of information technology. The purpose of the BSc Information Technology program is to develop qualified scientists who can identify, evaluate and solve problems associated with information technology and be able to assume and demonstrate initiative and responsibility in related academic and professional contexts in South Africa as well as in the international world. With the focus of the program being on the principles, theory, and practice of information technology, the students acquire the appropriate competence and research ability that serves as a basis for entry into the labor market and a range of professional training, practice as well as postgraduate studies opportunities associated with information technology.

The primary purpose of the BSc Hons qualification is to consolidate and deepen the students’ knowledge and expertise in Information Technology and to develop research capacity in the methodology and techniques of it. BSc Hons is essentially a coursework degree of which at least 25% (30) of the credits are devoted to a research project and reporting under supervision.

The Honors Degree consists of a data analysis project (compulsory) and eight-semester modules chosen in consultation with the Head of the Department.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Science Honours in Health and Safety Management is to provide students with the necessary professional attributes, Health and Safety skills, and competencies, which would allow them to successfully fulfill the requirements of registration with the SACPCMP.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Science Honours in Construction Project Management is to provide students with the necessary professional attributes, project management skills, and Construction Project Management competencies, which would allow them to successfully fulfill the requirements of registration with the SACPCMP as a professional Construction Project Manager.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Science Honours in Quantity Surveying is to provide students with the necessary professional attributes, project management skills, and Quantity Surveying competencies, which would allow them to successfully fulfill the requirements of registration with the SACQSP as a professional Quantity Surveyor.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Construction is to build the necessary knowledge, understanding, abilities, and skills required for further learning towards becoming a competent practicing Construction Professional. Specifically, the qualification provides graduates with the following abilities: analytical thinking, managerial competence, relevant technological competence, and creative, critical thinking.

Construction management is the field of study meant for the person who wishes to become part of the process of infrastructure development, especially the construction of buildings. The construction manager is a professional business person who acts as manager for undertakings in the building, construction and property industry as well as related support services.

Quantity surveying is the science that delivers specialized financial and contractual services and advice to clients in the building and construction industry, as well as in related industries. The quantity surveyor is an independent and professional consultant who works with architects, consulting engineers, and the building contractor, in order to protect the interests of the client, while at the same time also looking after the interests of the contractor and subcontractors.

Students enrolled for this degree will be exposed to a wealth of tools and theoretical information, which can be applied to exploit and control microbial activities for improving industrial and agricultural processes, as well as for improving the lives of animals, humans and plants in the ecosystem.
