Program Description

BSc in Chemical Engineering

Guangdong Technion Israel Institute Of Technology

BSc in Chemical Engineering

College: College of Engineering

Duration: 4 Years

Description: The chemical industry globally produces thousands of products required by people today. Chemical engineers are key members of all branches and activities of this industry.

Chemical engineers deal with a variety of areas: energy (power plants, renewable, solar), water treatment (desalination, wastewater treatment), polymers, microelectronics, nanotechnology, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, petrochemicals, security, environmental quality and more. The chemical engineer is involved in related processes from initial design to the finished product. Change is at the heart of chemical engineering. It changes structure and changes of materials to arrive at useful or valuable insights about characteristics or actions.

Following basic science courses, with a strong emphasis on mathematics, physics, and chemistry, the program provides a broad education in process fundamentals that include material and energy balances, thermodynamics and transport phenomena. Finally, the students are directed to integrative courses that cover process and plant designs as well as those that deal with specific environmental problems and appropriate technologies for treating them. The chemical engineering program in GTIIT emphasizes environmental technologies, organized as a minor in the program (about 21 of 156 credits). This enables the graduate engineer to deal with technologies for the abatement of water, air or soil pollutants and preventing the deterioration of environmental quality.

Career opportunities for chemical engineers are broad and include management of factories or chemical plants; planning chemical or biochemical processes and plants; supervising production plant teams; simulating processes to improve their output and control their effects on the environment. The graduate engineer can work in the abovementioned industries or in engineering design offices or governmental regulatory bodies. Chemical engineers trained in this program will be able to design and implement processes that will prevent environmental pollution, operating on the premise that it is easier, cheaper and better to prevent environmental harm by advanced planning, rather than repairing damages.
